Sneaking around

Description

A Tetrapodophis amplectus crawling/coiling over a dead branch on the forest floor. Or are it two of them?

Tetrapodophis amplectus is a primitive snake with legs. Its fossil is 15 cm long and was found in the Bürgermeister Müller Museum in Solnhofen, Germany, but it apparently came from Brazilian rocks out of the Early Cretaceous. Other prehistoric snakes with hind legs have been found before, but Tetrapodophis is the first one that still had its front limbs.
Apparently remains of its last meal have been fossilized too showing that this little critter was a predator likes its today's cousins. It is thought that Tetrapodophis constricted its prey because the midsection of its body has lots of vertebrae (in total the entire body has 150 of them), the tiny limbs might have helped with holding struggling prey.
