It's thicc by Dontknowwhattodraw94 It's thicc by Dontknowwhattodraw94
I was first a bit wary to draw the new Utahraptor because there was no decent reference material so I'd only end up with something based on others' works who probably would be off too once the new material would get published, but suddenly A WILD HARTMAN SKELETAL appeared!
And on top of that even a nice
anatomy study by :iconspinosaurus1:

Hurray for #utahraptorweek by the Earth Archives/Studio 252MYA crew!

I don't know how big Jim Kirkland is, but I went for the classic 1.80 meters (6 ft) scale figure.
Also, yeah, naked legs, because ostriches. It was just an idea that popped up in my mind, but don't take it too serious.

The scale man in the Saurian scales was Bob Bakker. Basically the father of the Dinosaur Renaissance along with GSP

Those two look very different. Shown here is Kirkland, Bakker has a long beard and hair.

This is a perfectly reasonable depiction of a big ground bird in a hot climate. BTW love the fat ankles = kankles.

Awesome to see a dromaeosaur depicted with a more vulture-like feather covering. Quite a refreshing change from the ever-prevalent "ground hawk" depiction. Like seriously, it gets old really, really really fast.

Thanks, would be nice if there were some more varieties. Hawks are nice, but some vultures or caracaras are good too.

In hindsight the naked butt is a bit too much, but hey, it's something!

I would imagine the butt would be naked, that way when they had to poop or when they mated there wouldn't be a mess back there, with arms like that, wiping would seem difficult

That's not really necesarry because so many birds have floofy butts. They can just spread their feathers out of the way.

Huh did a quick google search and you're right, they don't really poop, it's like someone squeezing a bottle of Ranch Dressing also....

There should be a movie about a survival expert and his/her Utahraptor companion going on explorations around America. That would be nice to see in theaters.

Jaguar Bear Hawk BOI!!!!!!!!

I honestly think this thing was hunting at night since the sclerotic rings in Hartman's skeletal are huge proportional to the skull. I would also like to mention this giant raptor looks like it could take HUGE prey, at least by dromaeosaur standards.

Oh damn, that'd be awesome.
Indeed, I think an experienced adult of these would be capable of disemboweling large prey with just a few well placed kicks. Let alone if they decided to gang up on something...

I'd consider iguanodonts huge prey by any standard.

According to Larremendi's view on Utahraptor ecology, max prey size are young Cedarosaurus.

Which is about this big.

I jumped on it too when I saw the skeletal, and at long last I was able to draw something I've been longing to draw for a while: Utahraptors with freakin' laser beams attached to their heads! >:]
