Big Al

Description

It's one of the most famous dinosaurs: specimen MOR 693 aka Big Al. He's one of the most complete Allosaurus skeletons and one with a whole story to tell: his ribs show healed injuries, he broke one of his arms, his tail and other bones but they healed during his tragic life... and not to forget the injury that killed him: his broken and infected third toe on his right foot. The whole bone is bloated because of the infection, which made it impossible for him to hunt and affected his other footh because of the abnormal way of walking.

Big Al has his own special episode in the BBC serie Walking With Dinosaurs, I followed their example in letting poor Al die in a dried up riverbed so he got quickly buried by the rain he waited for so desperately. He never reached his adult size. I don't know his length: Scott Hartman's skeletal seems around 7 to 8 metres but in Walking With Dinosaurs they say he's 9 metres long or so...

I really hope to see his skeleton once, he's on the top of my wish list :D

Don't forget to check out the beautiful WWD episode about this wonderfull animal: www.youtube.com/watch?v=r1yv7P…

Oh, and there is even a Big Al 2! He's THE most complete Allosaurus skeleton and marked by a deformed jaw. He broke it but it healed. He has his own episode in Dinosaur Revolution (that episode isn't as serious as the former but still lovely to watch if you ask me): www.youtube.com/watch?v=VXW4y4…
