Amphibious tank by Dontknowwhattodraw94 Amphibious tank by Dontknowwhattodraw94
Art for a blogpost by :iconnashd1: I did a while ago.
Short explanation by Duane Nash for all clearity: "The post does not suggest that ankylosaurs or any other ornithischians (not ruling it out either) were amphibious like hippos merely that negative density may have occurred in some species that had thick skin & armor making them move like hippos in the water. Armadillos have also been reported to move like this underwater on occasion but they are obviously not amphibious."

There are quite some little critters hidden in here because I like to hide critters:

Ankylosaurus magniventris (Ankylosaurid)
Brachychampsa montana (Alligatoroid)
Habrosaurus dilatus (Sirenid salamander)
Scapherpeton tectum (Scapherpetontid salamander)
Potamornis skutchi (Hesperonithid)
Amia fragosa (Amiid fish)
Belonostomus longirostris (Aspidorhynchid fish)
Pleurobema cryptorhynchus (Unionid bivalve)
Campeloma sp. (Viviparid snail)
Crassostrea subtrigonalis (oyster)
Random water scorpion (Nepidae)

Also if you want to know some flora that I got from here because if it existed in Alberta it (or something close to it) will probably have lived in Hell Creek too, right?

Pistia corrugatus (floating water plant, Araceae)
Trapa sp. (Water chestnut)
Also some algae stuff.

Great drawing!

The idea is interesting. Having in mind how it was very volumous (and how the "armor" would prevent effective heat elimination in the areas that were covered by the "armor"), it would make sense for it to cool down on water sometimes.

That could be, yes. And lots of animals enjoy a mud bath from time to time :)

And sometimes there are "natural pools" as well, not just mud.

Reminds me of the armadillos when crossing little river do not swim, only running at the bottom at full speed, It's very funny

Also, let's see: water scorpion under the Trapa leaves seeds, salamander and snail in the Trapa "forest", oysters and clams in the bottom, Amia next to a rock, Belonostomus behind the Ankylosaurus. Brachychampsa, Habrosaurus, and Potamornis are obvious.

Funny enough, in Dinosaur King, Dr. Spike Taylor, the main charcter Max's father, hypothesize that Saichania lived near water and fed like hippos today, 8 years before someone actually confirmed it!

This isn't confirmed though, just good speculation. Would be cool if palaeontologists decided to do a study on it.

Never thought of ankylosaurus possibly being a critter that took walks along the bottom of freshwater bodies.

It's not meant to be semiaquatic, it's meant to show a defence mechanism/way of getting around when forced to cross water
