Uyan and Dina

It's warm and comfortable in a cave lioness' den during the Late Pleistocene. Hidden in the darkness lay two balls of fur, her cubs.
They don't have a name, but they will be called Uyan and Dina. The two siblings have been under the protection of their mom, a large and powerful huntress of the ice age. However, even she can't protect them from what is about to come now that she's out hunting. 
The earth that's supposed to give them cover is unstable and while the two lion cubs are having sweet dreams their fate is about to get sealed. They'll be hidden from the sunlight for at least 12 000 years. 


I've been waiting for the official reveal to the media of the two cave lion cubs from the Abyisky district, found in the permafrost of the banks of the Uyandina River. About a month ago there were already some pictures published online, but a few days ago there finally was the official release.
Uyan and Dina are estimated to be 12 000 years old, but further tests have yet to be done to investigate if the two aren't even older. They're preserved in extraordinary good conditions, everything of them is still visible: colour, fur, soft tissue, even their whiskers. It makes them the most complete cave lion remains ever.
The two lion cubs are described to be the size of plump house cats. Their eyes weren't completely opened yet and they still had their baby teeth, making them about two weeks old. Their mother must've kept them hidden in a hole to keep them safe from the weather and predators, but a landslide must have burried them alive at some point. This created an airtight cage made out of the permafrost and explains why these two animals are so well preserved.
