The pond by Dontknowwhattodraw94 The pond by Dontknowwhattodraw94
One of the final tasks for school this year.
We had to illustrate two texts of an already existing children book: a short one and a really long one. It was a bit hard to get started and actually get something done, but in the end I really loved making it.

This is one of the four pages I did for the long story. I left the text with it because the thing looks better as a whole.

To sum the story up for you:
The hippo wanted to go living in the sky so one day he build a ladder and took his bed, chair and fork with him. He seemed to enjoy his life there, but every time someone wanted to bring him a visit he always said the timing wasn't convenient and the visitors went back home. On his birthday the ant and the squirrel decide to bring him a visit and to take the pond with them because the hippo must've missed swimming in it. They climb the ladder with the squirrel carrying the pond on its back.
When they arrive the hippo is of course happy and immediately jumps in, having fun for hours while the ant and the squirrel sit around waiting for something to happen, maybe some pie or so. Nothing seems to be there for them though so after a while they just go back to Earth while the hippo keeps swimming around in his pond.

Done in watercolours and pencil.

Stupid children books can't even get the underwater locomotion of hippos right. Shame!

One does not simply carry a pond on their back. Still, it's a cute story.

Yeah, the story is weird...
But that was done on purpose: we were because of this forced to draw independant of the text itself like how an illustrator normally works when illustrating children books. It was a good way to learn it like this.

If that hippopotamus looked any more comfortable you could probably be forgiven for trying to sit on it like a couch ... although that would be a rather bad idea, as any student of Africa's Most Dangerous Wildlife can tell you!:D (Big Grin)
