Day 28 - Future

Description

"What do you think the descendant of a dinosaur might look like today? Birds are cheating!"

Well, let's go for a dinosauroid based on that Dale Russell's Troodon sapiens model you all probably know, only a bit more realistic.
This isn't a Troodon though, jut some kind of coelurosaurid theropod not part of maniraptora. Otherwise it would have wings and I have no idea if those feathers could de-evolve and in case they didn't I had no idea anyway on how to work with that.

So... Earth, 35 million years after the Cretaceous period ended. One small group of coelurosaurid theropods has underwent a dramatic chain of mutations and one of their descendants is now a wide spread species, capable of being other creatures one step ahead with its large brain. They live all throughout Europe, Asia and Africa. The American and Oceanic continent are seperated by too large bodies of water to reach (yet).
A scout group of extraterrestrials found the Blue Planet several years ago during an exploration for (in their perspective) extraterrestrial life. Their scientists are now observing and documenting Earth's species for 25 years and have a special interest in these hyper-intelligent dinosaurs they call Blue folk.
A short summarize of their findings about this incredible species. Translated in English with several words of their terminology replaced by human ones to make comprehension easier:

"Some kind of dinosauroid with long arms and wrists that can pronate like Home sapiens to manipulate objects perfectly. Also the first digit can swivel to the back of the hand thanks to a unique and flexible joint just like owls have. The braincase is huge, proportionally as big as ours which makes these creatures capable of learning fast, solving problems and communicating with a complicated language that depending on which part of the world has its own dialect without any overlapping with that from other places. We're pretty sure these dialects are just a language on its own and that if one would take a specimen from Europe and confront it with one of Asia they wouldn' be able to comprehend each other at all."

"Another cause of their large brains and what makes us sure these dinosaurs are on par with us humans is their interest in art. Several caves and vertical rock surfaces are filled with primitive cave art, depicting hunting scenes, gods and mysterious signs. What these signs mean isn't clear yet. Some think they represent symbols for the male and female sex, others think they are keywords or signs for their mythology, others think they are just numbers. Our scientists have no agreement yet."

"They live in families of up to 50 individuals. The average age they reach is 25 years, at the age of 10 they are sexually mature and get a partner. These partners are, depending on the size of the group they live in, chosen by an old, experienced individual (that plays an important role in making decisions at crucial points in time) from the same group or another one from nearby territories after having discussed this with the local "matriarch". Mates are monogamous, but there are families that are polygamous. The latter are often the largest groups.
Food consists mostly out of meat, but fruits and other plant material are eaten too. In the families studied in each area, meat and fish take in about 65 percent of their diet, plant material 32 percent. The rest is filled in with certain mushrooms and insects."

"Contact hasn't been made much. In the past ten years, thirty families all around the globe have been approached with 23 of them accepting us. Studying them hasn't changed much since no permits have been given yet to try to integrate with their language and culture, which sadly doesn't make it able for us to find answers on several questions yet and to understand their different dialects/languages. At the moment most families are simply observed from a polite distance which made us able to at least understand their daily routines and form hypothesis around their culture. It's now accepted they have a primitive religion which they use in an attempt to control prey, weather and health. Different large figures on art walls show they have a polytheism with antropomorphized gods."

I actually did this just for fun and came across a very similar concept, although you were much more in depth than I was. dinomaster337.deviantart.com/a… I think I took a little bit of inspiration from your work. Come to think of it, I should've put that in the description. Just thought this was cool, and figured I'd share it, cause why notOMG MOAR POEMS!
